Integrate Manufacturing Executive Short Course

How well can you run a manufacturing business?

TWIMS has partnered with business simulation experts EDISIM to provide a unique opportunity for 25 delegates to run a virtual company that manufactures electronic sensors in a dynamic, realistic and competitive marketplace. To succeed you will need to develop operational excellence and organisational behaviour that supports decision-making in complex, time-sensitive and dynamic situations.

This new short course provides delegates with the opportunity to test assumptions and learn from mistakes in order to become more effective as strategic leaders using the Capstone®  business simulation online platform.

Inclusive Conversations Series

TWIMS is excited to announce the launch of our inclusive conversations series for 2021. The series, which will take the form of facilitated dialogue sessions, will be addressing key barriers that women face in the manufacturing sector.

Our recent engagements with senior women leaders from diverse manufacturing organisations has highlighted the need for an inclusive forum that allows women to grapple with barriers they face in the manufacturing sector. As a faculty, not only do we want to provide this space, but also to capture these experiences as part of a research agenda that will put gender inclusivity firmly in the manufacturing spotlight.

TWIMS receives multi-million rand investment for the advancement of manufacturing in Africa

Listed groups Illovo Africa, Metair,  TFG and vehicle manufacturer Toyota SA Motors (TSAM) together pledged an investment of R18 million in the Toyota Wessels Institute for Manufacturing Studies (TWIMS).

The multi-year investment will fund the creation of four dedicated research chairs. Each chair will focus on a particular burning issue relating to the advancement of manufacturing on the continent.

Manufacturing is our passion:
Is it yours?

TWIMS provides structured programmes with the aim of developing Africa’s manufacturing leaders.

We provide formal academic courses through our partnership with GIBS, as well as a range of non-academic short courses.

“The creation of a deep manufacturing culture (“monozukuri” – meaning making things in Japanese) has contributed to the development of Asian economies such as Japan, Thailand and Korea. I believe we need to start building a similarly deep culture of manufacturing in Africa. The development of this culture can transform African society. Africa needs highly skilled engineers and production managers that can lead and manage complex manufacturing businesses.”
