Hoshin Kanri Masterclass

22/06/22 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

R4000

Aligning strategy across the organisation: An often-failing fundamental

Masterclass overview:

This TWIMS masterclass shares the lean principles and practices of Hoshin Kanri. It explores how this methodology aligns key strategic objectives, milestones and deliverables both vertically and horizontally across an organisation. Further to this, the integration of the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check- Adjust) cycle is shared which supports the methodical and robust nature of this technique. The communication approach often adopted with Hoshin Kanri, known as the catch-ball method delivered via a tightly linked leadership chain, is also introduced and discussed.

The practice of Hoshin Kanri is rudimentary as it sets the foundation in ensuring that teams (divisional and functional) and individuals function collectively as a chain that delivers value to customers. An eminent occurrence within the industry, is that business units’ function in siloed manners, pursuing separate sets of performance metrics. There is often limited synergy and hindered alignment amongst individuals leading to frustrations and inefficiencies. The masterclass positions Hoshin Kanri as the approach to successfully address this occurrence. If this method is delivered successfully, systemic and situational management practices are easily assured and strengthened.

Learning outcomes:

The session will ensure that participants obtain:

  • A clear understanding of the practice of Hoshin Kanri, its purpose and the benefits of successfully aligning strategic objectives in all areas of an organisation (vertically and horizontally)
  • Exposure to the common misunderstandings associated with this lean technique
  • Discovery of the common occurrences of siloed, fragmented teams functioning within manufacturing environments and how Hoshin can support in addressing this challenge
  • An understanding of the communication methods and PDCA cycles that support the Hoshin Kanri method; why they are important and the role they play in ensuring the reliability of the approach
  • An appreciation that if Hoshin Kanri is applied correctly, it forms a crucial foundation for the development of a robust management system

Participants will receive a TWIMS Hoshin Kanri Masterclass Attendance certificate.

Who should attend?
